What is the difference between binding & serging?

The term binding describes a 1 ¼" cotton ribbon, sewn to the edge of a rug. It is generally the selection for high-traffic area rugs, such as an entryway or hall runners. Serging means to use a yarn loop stitch sewn to the edge of a rug. Serging is a little more decorative and is generally used on rugs that are made to enhance the look of a room. We have a multitude of color options to match your carpet or rug exactly, be it bound or serged.

How long does it take to make my rug?

Standard turnaround is one week. Wide-bind rugs two to three weeks. Logos and custom designs three to four weeks. Please call for a more accurate timeline depending on your project.

Do you sell carpet?

Generally, all area rug carpet is provided by the customer. We do not sell carpet for area rugs. We do carry material for walk-off mats and material for replacement snap-on boat carpet.

Can I bring in a prefabricated rug to have resized?

Yes, often people will find the perfect rug but in the wrong size. We at Bob’s Binding & Serging are experts on making that perfect rug fit into your room.

Best backing options for an area rug that will be placed over carpet?

Monks cloth is a soft muslin cloth that is glued to the back of a rug before the binding or serging process. The soft Monks cloth backing will help to protect the wear on your existing carpet.

Best backing options for an entryway rug?

Our 1-step nonskid backing is perfect for your entryway rug. This backing is glued directly to of the rug to keep the rug in place. Our rubberized backing is safe for all kinds of hard surface flooring, including hardwood.

Do you sell rug pads for under an area rug?
