What is the difference between binding & serging?

Binding describes a 1 ¼" cotton ribbon sewn onto the edge of a rug. Binding is the primary selection for high-traffic area rugs, such as an entryway or hallway.

Serging describes a yarn loop stitch sewn to the edge of a rug. Serging is somewhat more decorative and is generally used on rugs that are made to enhance the look of a room.Whether you choose binding or serging, we have a multitude of color options to perfectly match your carpet or rug.

How long will it take to make my rug?

Our standard turnaround time is one week; wide-bind rugs generally take two to three weeks; custom rug designs and custom logo rugs take three to four weeks. Please call for a more accurate timeline for your specific project.

Do you sell carpet?

Generally speaking, all area rug carpet is provided by the customer. We do not sell carpet for area rugs. We do carry material for walk-off mats.

Can I bring in a prefabricated rug to be resized?

Yes. People often find the perfect rug but in the wrong size for their space. At Bob’s Binding & Serging, we are experts at making that perfect rug fit your room.

What are the best backing options for an area rug that will be placed over carpet?

We have one backing option available for rugs that will be placed over carpeting. Felt can be glued to the back of a rug prior to the binding or serging process. This option will help protect your carpet from wear.

What are the best backing options for an entryway rug?

Our 1-step non-skid backing is perfect for entryway rugs. This backing is glued directly to the back of a rug to keep the rug in place. Our rubberized backing is safe for all kinds of hard surface flooring, including hardwood.

Do you clean rugs?

We do not clean rugs. However, we do work closely with American Rug and Laundry and can make arrangements for pickup and delivery to and from our location.

Do you pick up and deliver?

Yes. For a fee, we will pick up and/or deliver your area rug. We work within a 20-mile radius of our location in Golden Valley. Contact us for a quote.

Can I have a rug delivered directly to Bob’s Binding & Serging?

Yes, we will accept any prepaid delivery on rugs. We charge a fee for receiving and inspecting all rugs; this fee is waived if any resizing work is to be done.

Do you sell rug pads to be used beneath an area rug?

Yes, we sell many different pads, cut to fit your custom rug. All pads are cut 1.5 inches smaller than your rug to ensure that your rug will nicely cover the pad and prevent any tripping hazards. Options are:

  • Omni Pad: Premium low-profile, non-skid rug pad. For use on all floor surfaces, laminates, tile, marble, wood, and carpet.
  • 40oz. Endurance Pad (Hair Pad): Standard all-purpose pad. Ideal for family rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms. For use in rooms with furniture on carpet.
